**Translation:** Construction of the Dnieper River tunnels continues

**Dukeri – steel pipelines of large diameter laid under the Dnieper. They transport sewage from the right-bank part of Kyiv to the facilities of the Bortnytska aeration station located on the left bank of the Dnieper for further purification.** [](assets/images/Дюкера.jpg) Seven such duker pipes with a diameter of 1.4 m (1400 mm) have been laid under the river. Four of them were built in 1966, two in 1975, and one in 1989. Their length ranges from 890 to 995 m. Currently, they require reconstruction due to wear and tear of the lower (tubular) part. Such damage to the dukers occurs because the sewage contains a large amount of sand and other pollutants, which quickly wear out the pipelines, especially in the lower part. **Currently, the following has been done:** - Installation of bank protection on the left bank of the Dnieper River; - Vertical planning on the left bank of the Dnieper River; - Installation of temporary water supply (V1, V2, V3) and sewage (K1) networks on the right bank of the Dnieper River; - Installation of a temporary water supply (V2) network on the left bank of the Dnieper River; - Installation of sluice gates and fittings in chambers No. 5 and No. 6; - Arrangement of construction sites on the right and left banks of the Dnieper River; - Installation of temporary power supply networks on the right and left banks of the Dnieper River. [](assets/images/Дюкера%203.jpg) **Currently, the following work is being done:** - Installation of chambers No. 5 and No. 6; - Installation of a temporary shaft K1-1.1 water lowering system; - Installation of a water lowering system for chamber No. 5; - Installation of pipeline No. 4 on the left bank in the area of chamber No. 6. [](assets/images/Дюкера%20камера.JPG) After the reconstruction of chambers No. 5 and No. 6, the sewage will be temporarily switched to duker transitions No. 3 and No. 4, which will allow reducing electricity consumption at the KNС «Right-bank» until the saniation of these dukers. The reconstruction of the duker transitions will ensure stable transportation of sewage from the right-bank part of Kyiv to the facilities of the Bortnytska aeration station, prevent ecological risks, and increase the throughput capacity of the pipelines by using new polymer materials with a low friction coefficient. After the reconstruction, the pipelines under the Dnieper will reliably serve the needs of the city for another 50 years. It should be noted that the reconstruction of the dukers is being carried out within the framework of the program for the economic and social development of the city of Kyiv.
