150 years in the service of the people of Kyivans
So, in 1869, the Kyiv City Duma convened a meeting on the city's water supply, at which it considered projects from America and Austria. However, in the end, they settled on the option of the domestic engineer Amanda Struve. The Kyiv water supply project was approved back in 1864. But only five years later, they gathered entrepreneurs who were ready to finance the work and informed about the possibility of building a centralized water supply. In January 1871, the joint-stock Kyiv Water Supply Company was created, with Struve appointed as its chairman.
And on May 22, 1871, the first structures of the centralized water supply were solemnly laid. The Dnieper River, not far from Volodymyr's Descent, was chosen as the source of water supply.
On March 1, 1872, the first stage of the city water supply was launched. From that day on, the company began to charge subscribers for water use. And this date became a starting point in the water supply of Kyiv. Construction work was fully completed in September 1872.
